This 1987 Bertone X1/9 is finished in red over black and tan upholstery and powered by a 1.5-liter inline-four mated with a five-speed manual transaxle. Modifications consist of a Midwest-Bayless Italian Auto cylinder head with a performance camshaft and competition valve springs, as well as LED lighting, a Blaupunkt stereo, 13″ OZ Racing wheels, and a Vick Autosports header and adjustable coilover suspension. The car spent time in California and Michigan before the seller’s father acquired it in 2015 and subsequently moved it to Wisconsin.
The body is finished in red with a black removable roof panel. The front and rear bumpers have been removed and replaced with bumperettes sourced from Midwest-Bayless Italian Auto, and LED lighting sourced from the same company is also fitted. The seller notes a ding in the hood, a scratch in the right-front fender, damage on the rear valance around the exhaust tip, that the power antenna needs to be raised by hand, and that the seal between the targa top and right window sometimes leaks and needs to be replaced. The removed bumpers are included in the sale.
13″ OZ Racing wheels are finished in white and accented by red Abarth and Corse stickers, and they are mounted with 185/60 Federal Super Steel 595 tires. Vick Autosports height-adjustable coilover springs are paired with Koni adjustable shocks, and the seller states the steering rack and brake pads and rotors were all replaced in 2018.
The interior features seats upholstered in black vinyl and tan cloth, and amenities consist of a lockable glove box, power windows, and an aftermarket Blaupunkt CD stereo with Bluetooth connectivity. The seller states the heat adjustment lever is stuck in its current position and that one speaker cuts in and out when in use.
The three-spoke steering wheel fronts instrumentation including a 140-mph speedometer and a reverse-sweep 8k-rpm tachometer, along with gauges for coolant temperature, battery voltage, and fuel level. The six-digit odometer shows under 49k miles.
The mid-mounted 1.5L inline-four has been modified with a Midwest-Bayless Italian Auto performance cylinder head with a 223-degree camshaft, competition valve springs, and a three-angle valve job, and it was installed by Foreign Car Specialists of Madison, Wisconsin in July 2018. Additional service completed in July 2018 consisted of replacing the accessory belt, water pump, alternator, radiator cap, and multiple seals. The seller states the starter was also recently replaced, that the oil was changed in the spring of 2021, and that the removed factory cylinder head is included in the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transaxle. A Vick Autosports tubular header is fitted, and the seller notes corrosion near the muffler and on chassis and suspension components.
The removed 13″ Cromodora ‘Tron’ wheels with Sumitomo tires are included in the sale.
