This 1971 BMW 3.0CSi is a European-specification example that was first delivered in Italy, and it was acquired by the current owner in California in 2013. It is finished in Fjord Metallic over brown leather and powered by a 3.0-liter inline-six paired with a later-model five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes a MOMO steering wheel, a CD stereo, power windows, 14″ FPS alloy wheels, and Bilstein shocks with aftermarket springs. Service in preparation for the sale included an oil change and an inspection, along with replacement of the steering coupler, valve cover gasket, fuel filter, and ignition components.
The car was originally delivered in Baikal Metallic (042), and it was refinished in its current shade of Fjord Metallic in under prior ownership, and the hood, roof and rear were repainted in 2017 by Redwood Auto Body in Healdsburg, California following the theft of the trunk lid, and weatherstripping was replaced at that time.
FPS 14″ alloy wheels are fitted with Sumitomo HTR 200 tires, and one wheel center is finished in black and a non-matching spare alloy is stored in the trunk. Service since 2013 included sandblasting and powder-coating the front subframe, rebuilding the front brake calipers, and replacement of the power steering pump, steering coupler, front control arms, and the front brake lines. The car rides on Bilstein shocks and aftermarket springs.
The cabin features seats upholstered in brown leather, and the matching carpets and beige headliner were replaced in 2016. Amenities include woodgrain trim, power windows, and an Alpine CD stereo with Morel speakers mounted in the doors. Components from the air-conditioning system have been removed.
The MOMO steering wheel features drilled spokes and a wood rim, and it frames a 240-km/h speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, a clock, and ancillary gauges. The five-digit odometer shows 16k kilometers (~9,900k miles).
The car is equipped with a fuel-injected 3.0L inline-six. The water pump was replaced in 2013, the fuel system was serviced in 2017, and maintenance in May 2021 included an oil change and replacement of the valve cover gasket, fuel filter, and ignition components.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement five-speed manual transmission that was installed during prior ownership.
Manufacturer’s literature and service records dating to 1992 are included in the sale.
